Growing up a Reader
Growing up a Reader is an interdisciplinary research project (Education, Psychology and English Literature) in collaboration with the Scottish Book Trust, with support from Edinburgh’s Museum of Childhood. Our project aims to understand what it means to be a young reader in the 21stcentury. New literacies are shaping children’s and adolescents’ reading experiences; however, we lack a current understanding of what attracts young people to different text types or what it means to be a reader from young people’s perspectives.
As part of this project, we plan to develop the research skills of a group of primary and secondary school students who will join our research team! Our student researchers will support by interviewing their peers about what they read, why, and what reading means to them.
